In todays new home construction smart-home features are a common request. Fortunately, if your home was built long after the newest craze, you can still make your home smart. Hello Wifi! Smart thermostats, smart music, programmable lighting and motorized blinds are among the most popular options available today.
At this point in time almost half of all the window treatments that my clients use are motorized. Having your blinds work with the touch of a button was a feature that people thought was a luxury. However, the technology has come so far since the original motorized blinds became available, it’s become accessible for almost everyone. People don’t see it any longer as a dream feature but more of practicality. Today’s motorized blinds are mostly battery operated-though they can be plugged in to an outlet. They work with a remote or with a smart phone.
There are several key features to motorized blinds. Motorized blinds make operating window treatments in hard to reach places no longer an issue. No more long cords that hand all over the place or simply couldn’t be reached at all.
What makes motorized blinds so popular today is the ability of the blinds to work with your smart phone and Alexa technology. The blinds can be programmed to automatically go up and down at certain times. This help with your homes insulation. Let’s say it’s the middle of the summer-a typical super hot day. You can program the blinds to be down in your kitchen when you get up to have your morning coffee then later in the day when the sun is hot and beating down on your kitchen windows you can have the blinds come down. The insulating nature of the blinds will keep your kitchen cool so your air-conditioned doesn’t have to work so hard. Then before you come home from work they can be programmed to come back up. You come home to your cool home and beautiful view from your kitchen windows.
